Panchayat secretaries begin indefinite agitation

Jamshedpur: Panchayat secretaries of Jamshedpur block went on an indefinite strike in support of their various demands on Saturday. As a result, all official work remained stalled throughout the day.

The state working committee of Jharkhand State Panchayat Secretaries Association convened a meeting at the block auditorium to chalk out agitation strategy. The meeting was presided over by the panchayat secretary Ghasiram Rana.

It was unanimously decided to observe agitation on Monday by wearing black badges on duty. All panchayat secretaries and Jan Sevaks would be on token strike from Monday. A memorandum addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum was handed to the Block Development Officer. The panchayat secretaries demanded protection while alleging that the panchayat committee members had harassed and threatened them.

Among those present during the meeting included Dharmu Oraon, Akhtar Hussain, Ravindra Nath Khamrai, Surai Murmu and Nikunj Mandal.
