Panchayat representatives to take oath for development on 2nd October

Jamshedpur: Hundreds of panchayat representatives from different parts of East Singhbhum converged at the Town Hall in Sidhgora on Monday to participate in the workshop on the proposed special Gram Sabha meeting to be held in every panchayat on 2nd October.

The workshop was presided over by the Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) of East Singhbhum Vinod Kumar. It was organized by the district Panchayat Raj office with the view to inform the Mukhiyas and other panchayat representatives about the forthcoming panchayat level special Gram Sabha meeting and its objectives.

The workshop was inaugurated by the DDC jointly with the director of NREP and director of District Rural Development Authority.

The DDC addressing the panchayat representatives appealed to them to take oath on some vital issue or topic related to panchayat development on Gandhi Jayanti such as creating a dowry free village, making panchayats free of open defecation, or making the panchayats free from the evils of female foeticide, garbage or polythenes.

In a welcome speech, district Panchayati Raj officer Bipin Kumar said that the special Gram Sabha was scheduled to be held on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in all panchayats of the state.

The purpose of the event is to reaffirm faith of the people in the Gram Swaraj philosophy of Gandhiji and strengthen the panchayats to make sure that development reaches the last man. An oath taking ceremony will also be held on the occasion, Kumar said.

The panchayat representatives were informed that Chief Minister Raghubar Das will also be attending the special Gram Sabha�s oath taking ceremony in some panchayat of Ormanjhi block in Ranchi on 2nd October.

The CM�s programme will be telecast live in all panchayats of the district. BDOs of the district have been entrusted with the job of ensuring live telecast of the programme.
