Jamshedpur, Nov. 27: The Institution of Engineers will organizea two-dayNational Creativity Olympiad on November 28 and 29 to promote science and general knowledge among school students.

The National Creativity Olympiad will be organised for the 14th year this year and this time more than 50 teams will participate in the event to be held in the premises of Institution of Engineers in Sakchi.

School students from classes VI onwards will participate for the winning place. The National Creativity Olympiad is a platform where students apply their brains to create something new. Materials are provided by the organizers and a topic is given to students to make a product.

In all 17 out-station teams and eight city teams have been selected after a preliminary round and they are categorized under Direct Domain. Students participating in the Direct Domain on Saturday will have to create models based on the topic Applications of the Internet in Rural India. The theme will require students to make farming or agriculture models to help farmers.

On the second day, there will be 24 teams from 12 city schools under the Open Domain who will attend a workshop on aeronautics and gliders followed manual training on gliders.

The event is organized to promote the creativity among children. We have got not only city schools but schools across various regions who participate in the competition. We select limited city schools as all of them cannot be accommodated in the finals,” said a member of the organizing team of National Creativity Olympiad.

The finals of the Olympiad have a tradition of giving theme based competition where the judges judge the exact intelligence of the school children. The competition thus helps students learn by doing things themselves.

“Students enjoy participating in the Olympiad because they try and succeed. We have already got confirmation from schools across the country.

The tasks are given to the students on the spot so that they don’t have time to decide and consult seniors. Whatever they do, they do it by themselves and that is how they learn their faults,” said an organizer.

Schools from cities like Dhanbad, Jamshedpur, Patna, Bhubaneswar, Kanpur, Bokaro, Guwahati, Durg, Rourkela, Chakradharpur and Ranchi will participate in the competition.
