Jamshedpur : In view of Diwali over 100 people were today nabbed during a surprise one-hour Pre-Diwali drive carried out by the traffic wing of East Singhbhum police at Jugsalai and Bistupur to discipline two-wheelers and four-wheeler riders.
During the crackdown which began around 12.30 pm and continued till 1.30 pm bikers 100 bikers riding without helmet and proper number plates and those driving cars and mini vans sans seat belts were targetted.
The offenders were fined according to traffic norms. Those not wearing a helmet had to cough up a spot fine of Rs 270 . An additional Rs 100 was charged if the number plate was missing in the front end of the vehicle and Rs 1,000 for not possessing documents related to vehicle insurance. Those not wearing seat belts were asked to pay Rs 300.
“The objective is to instill traffic discipline among vehicle owners which in turn will help in checking road mishaps,” said Shivendra Kumar, the new traffic DSP of East Singhbhum.
