Opposition parties behaving in an anti-democratic manner: Bidyut Baran

District BJP leaders stage dharna, observe fast before Collectorate

Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur Mahanagar BJP leaders and activists staged a dharna before the Jamshedpur Collectorate here on Thursday to protest continuous disruption of Parliamentary proceedings by the Opposition parties. The agitating party members, who observed fast during the protest, were led by the MP of Jamshedpur, Bidyut Baran Mahato.

Addressing the gathering, the MP said the Congress and other Opposition parties had put a bad name to the Indian Parliament by causing frequent and continuous disruption in its daily proceedings. He said the Indian democracy had suffered a setback as a result of the ongoing activities by the Opposition parties. He said the fasting programme organized by the BJP was different from that of the Congress in an aside to the recent Chhole-Bhature episode.

Also present on the occasion, district BJP president Dinesh Kumar criticized the Opposition parties including Congress by terming the frequent Parliamentary disruptions as highly harmful for the Indian democracy. He said the Budget session was lost to the uproar created by the Congress and other Opposition parties without any rhyme or reason. He said debate on many important Bills could not take place due to the disruptions.

The protest programme continued till 4 pm. At the end, the participants drank nimbu pani to end the fast. Thereafter, a memorandum addressed to the President was handed over to the Deputy Commissioner.

Among others present during the dharna included Pawan Agrawal, Gurdev Singh Raja, Kulwant Singh Bunty, Khemlal Choudhary, BN Sharma, Chandrashekhar Mishra, Binod Singh, Nandjee Prasad, Rita Mishra, Rajpati Devi, Vimla Devi and Shanti Devi.
