Jamshedpur, May 7: After a six day wait, 4,500 doses of COVISHIELD vaccines arrived in Jamshedpur on Friday and will be administered to people from various centres from Saturday, May 8. According to the District Health Department, the number of people who have to be vaccinated is higher and the 4,500 doses are going to fall short resulting in loinger wait for those whose second dose is due.
However, District Civil Surgeon Dr AK Lal assured that more doses were expected shortly and said that there was no need to panic as everybody would get their vaccines on time. The centres where inoculations will be offered were in the process of being selected. There are six centres where COVAXIN inoculations are being provided. People of 45 years and above of age can get vaccinated at these centres. But due to the COVISHIELD vaccine crisis, people have been helplessly waiting for their second doses. Those whose second doses are due will receive their vaccinations from Saturday, May 8. The second dose of COVISHIELD vaccine may be availed of by persons who have completed the gap period between 42 and 56 days from the first shot. The Health Department will give priority to persons awaiting their second dose of vaccine.
