Jamshedpur, May 24: A seminar on the significance, challenges and future of the “One Nation, One Election” concept was organized at Tulsi Bhawan, Bistupur, under the leadership of MP Bidyut Baran Mahato. Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Raghubar Das attended as the chief guest, along with party leaders, legal professionals, NGOs, business associations and hundreds of citizens and BJP workers.

Raghubar Das emphasized that this is not a matter of debate but a national necessity. Citing the removal of Article 370, GST implementation, the Ram Mandir decision and the abolition of triple talaq, he said, “PM Modi doesn’t just talk reform, he executes it.” He stressed the need for consensus and public discourse, underlining that continuous elections disrupt development and impose frequent model code of conduct.

MP Bidyut Mahato highlighted that a High-Level Committee chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind consulted 62 political parties, with 32 in support. Former CECs and judges also backed the idea. Mahato added that implementation is planned for post-2029 (Lok Sabha) and post-2034 (state assemblies) through a phased, thoughtful process.

Speakers pointed out cost savings, better resource utilization, improved voter turnout and smoother governance as benefits. They also advocated for a unified voter list to eliminate redundancies and reduce expenditure.

State BJP spokesperson Amarpreet Singh Kale noted that simultaneous elections were the norm between 1951 and 1967 and it is time to return to this efficient system.

The event was inaugurated with a lamp-lighting ceremony. BJP leaders including Nandji Prasad, Rajesh Shukla, Sudhanshu Ojha and others addressed the gathering. The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks from BJP District General Secretary Sanjeev Singh and was attended by several dignitaries and a large public audience.
