Jamshedpur, July 8: Police cracked a chain-snatching case in the Telco area within 24-hours, arresting one accused and recovering the stolen gold chain, while a search is underway to nab his absconding accomplice.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, City SP Lalit Meena said the incident took place on July 7 near Telco Ghari Park, where two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched a gold chain from a woman before fleeing on a Hero Splendor motorcycle (JH05DC1914).
Following directions from the Senior Superintendent of Police, a special patrolling and search operation was launched under the supervision of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (City). During a late-night vehicle check near the HUDCO Testing Yard, police intercepted a suspicious motorcycle rider who attempted to flee but was apprehended after a brief chase.
The arrested accused was identified as Vikram Ho (25), a resident of Garurbasa in Govindpur. Police recovered the snatched gold chain, broken into two pieces, along with the stolen Hero Splendor motorcycle used in the crime.
During interrogation, Vikram confessed that he and his associate, Rohit alias Rohan alias Chindi, had carried out the chain-snatching near Telco Ghari Park. He also revealed that the motorcycle used in the offence had been stolen earlier the same day from Baridih under the Sidgora police station limits.
Vikram has been remanded to judicial custody, while police are conducting raids to apprehend the absconding accused.
