Jamshedpur, Jan 28: The Naval Tata Hockey Academy (NTHA), Jamshedpur celebrated a proud moment as its cadet Ashish Tani Purti won a silver medal in the Hockey India League (HIL) 2026 while playing for Team Ranchi Royals. The league was held from January 4 to January 26, with the final match played at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
Ashish’s achievement is special as he was the youngest player in the Ranchi Royals squad, competing alongside experienced international players and Olympians on one of India’s biggest hockey platforms. His performance highlighted both his talent and dedication to the sport.
Speaking after the tournament, Ashish expressed happiness over the achievement and said that playing with top-level players gave him valuable learning experience. He also thanked his coach, Mr. Harinder Singh, former Head Coach of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team, for guiding him and helping him understand the game better.
The Naval Tata Hockey Academy has been focusing on developing young players through structured training and overall growth, and Ashish’s success reflects the academy’s efforts.
Gurmeet Singh Rao, Project Director of NTHA, congratulated Ashish and said the silver medal was a proud moment for the entire academy. He added that being the youngest player and performing at such a high level shows Ashish’s hard work and strong foundation, and expressed confidence in his bright future in hockey.
