Jamshedpur: Chaos was witnessed at the Tata Workers Union(TWU) office at Bistupur on Tuesday when hundreds of NS grade employees of Tata Steel protested the recent wage revision agreement before the union office-bearers demanding a hike in their dearness allowance (DA).
The protestors alleged that the wage agreement was expected to bring about an increase in the DA amount. We had expected improvement in the DA. But there has been no increase in it even after the wage revision. We demand that the union authorities should take up the matter urgently with the company and give us our rightful, said Amit Kumar, one of the protestors.
As a result of the protest, Bistupur police reached the venue and somehow controlled the situation.
The protestors had yesterday announced their decision to reach the union office with their demand for a DA increase. They alleged that the president, general secretary and deputy president of the union had failed to live up to the expectations of the NS grade employees.
The NS grade employees had yesterday met former TWU president Raghunath Pandey on the DA issue. They also threatened to support Pandey in case no decision was taken on their demand.
