November Road Toll: 15 dead, 12 injured in Jamshedpur accidents

During the meeting, NHAI representatives were instructed to inspect the fitness of all bridges on the National Highway and submit a report within a month. The administration also mandated the installation of helpline numbers, speed limit signage, and warning boards at critical locations, including black spots and illegal median cuts. Plans were finalized to reconstruct the narrow bridge ahead of Dimna Chowk to meet four-lane standards, while the construction of a service road in Baharagora is set to commence this December, with completion targeted in nine months.

Urban traffic management was also a focal point, with directives issued to make uniforms and ID cards mandatory for auto drivers and to penalize unlicensed and underage operators. Autos were instructed to pick up passengers only from designated stands, and dilapidated buses at Mango bus stand will be removed. The administration also decided to address the traffic issues arising from illegal parking at Mango Chowk, Dimna Chowk, and Sakchi roundabout.

“Auto drivers were instructed to wear uniforms and carry ID cards. Actions were recommended against unlicensed and underage auto operators. Autos were directed to pick up passengers only from designated stands, with fines imposed for violations. Dilapidated buses at Mango bus stand will be removed, and buses stopping outside designated stands at Mango Bridge and roundabouts will face penalties,” said an official.

Meanwhile, November recorded 25 road accidents, resulting in 15 fatalities and 12 serious injuries. Three new black spots were identified at Pardih near City Inn Hotel, Dimna Chowk, and Barabanki Chowk, prompting measures for improvements at these locations. Strict enforcement against common violations, such as helmetless riding, overspeeding, and seat belt non-compliance, has been prioritized.

The administration emphasized the installation of CCTV cameras and speed-limit recording systems on highways as part of its broader strategy to curb traffic violations. With these initiatives, the district aims to ensure smoother traffic management and safer roads for all commuters.
