Do not pay heed to child lifting rumors : DC Amit Kumar

Jamshedpur: The deputy commissioner of East Singhbhum Amit Kumar on Friday appealed to the people of East Singhbhum to not pay heed to rumours about child lifting irrespective of their sources.

He said such rumours had no truth and should be best ignored to ensure peace and harmony in the society. His appeal came a day after the lynching of three youths in Nagadih village of Bagbera by villagers after being suspected as child lifters.

�The lynching of youths on unconfirmed suspicion is unfortunate. Such incidents should be stopped immediately. Those fueling the rumours will be dealt strictly by the district administration. We are keeping an eye on such rumour-mongers,� said the DC.

The DC also attended a high-level meeting with senior administrative and police officials to discuss the situation arising after the killings over child lifting rumours.

He expressed concern over the rumours, especially due to the killing of four people in Rajnagar (in Seraikela-Kharsawan) the same day. The meeting was attended by RK Mallick, additional DGP (operations), RK Dhan, DIG (STF), Prabhat Kumar DIG Kolhan range.

Addressing the meeting, the DC said that no case of child lifting was registered in the recent few days. He said the rumours were unfounded. He said the administration had initiated action to deal with the situation arising after the killings.

He said the authorities concerned in all areas were spreading public awareness to put an end to the killings triggered by rumors. He said there was need to use various media platforms to spread the message effectively.

�The Mukhiyas and other panchayat committee members of all villages are being asked to spread awareness among the people so that such incidents do not recur,� said the DC.
