Jamshedpur, May 24: North Ghorabandha panchayat is the first in Jamshedpur block to declared open defecation-free (ODF).
The panchayat accomplished the task by ensuring toilets for all the families. BDO Parul Singh made the official declaration on Wednesday.
ODF campaign is being conducted as part of Swach Bharat mission. The survey conducted as part of ODF campaign in the year 2012 found out that 40 families in the panchayat did not have toilets. Today the panchayat has been declared ODF after toilets were constructed in all the houses.
Afzal Akhtar, deputy head of the panchayat led the campaign and ensured North Ghorabandha become ODF. To help the campaign reach its pinnacle eight teams were constituted. The first team consisted of BDO Parul Singh, Rohit Kumar, Simran Kumar Jha, second team had Praveen Kumar Sinha, Pratik, Sanjay Singh, third team had Sanjay Singh, Aman, Rohit and Amit.
The fourth team consisted of BPRO Manoj Kumar Jha, Sweta Kumari, Puja Rani Mishra and Subhash Kumar. CDPO Sandhya Rani, Manoj and Subham were part of the fifth team. Bhagirathi Ramani Debashish and Bhado were part of sixth team while the seventh team comprised of Sandhya Kujur, Rabveer, Mritunjay Singh while Sumi Mardhi, Harshendra and Babita were part of the eight team. Focus was given to ODF from the beginning instead of saturation approach.
Communities were encouraged to take collective decisions and emphasis was on usage of toilets by all community members.
