Noamundi villagers block Tata Steels railway loading point

Noamundi, June 1: Around 500 affected villagers led by Singhbhum MP Laxamn Gilua and Zila Parishad member Laxmi Suren blocked the railway loading point of Tata steel Batambeen plant in Noamundi on Wednesday demanding employment to the effected villagers of Noamundi, Maudi, and Padapahar, as per the commitment made to the public during public hearing in 2012.

The villagers blocked the railway track of Tata Steel loading point with banners and display cards. Assessing the public mood, the administration imposed Sec 107 to maintain law and order at the loading point. The police force was beefed up to control any untoward happening.

The villagers put up their demand to the MP Laxamn Gilua to provide one rack loading manually at the loading point which would provide job opportunity to thousands of villagers, as currently they are unable to arrange two piece of meal per day. Gila tried contact with the management to discuss the issue, but the Tata steel management did not turn up.

Subsequently, the aggrieved MP warned the Tata Steel to face a continuous agitation until it bowed down their demands. MP accused that the management was stubborn and said that next agitation would be launched by the end of the month. It would continue for an indefinite period.

Zilla Parishad member Laxmi Suren also said that Tata Steel should provide job according to their commitments. The Tata Steel could not send any railway loading to Tata Steel plant. Earlier, as many as 14 rakes of Iron ore were being sent to Tata Steel, Jamshedpur.

Ananda Singh, Surunandi , Meghanth Khilar and a large number of villagers participated in the stir.
