Noamundi: The Noamundi college campus resonated with the spirit of sportsmanship and celebration as its two-day Annual Sports Meet got underway.
The sports meet was inaugurated on December 23 by the chief guest, Avneesh Kumar, Chief Planning Officer (OMQ), Tata Steel, who flagged off the 400-metre race. Earlier, he lit the ceremonial torch and formally declared the games open. On the arrival of the guests, students presented a captivating Ho traditional dance, adding colour and cultural vibrance to the occasion. A parade by the players, accompanied by melodious band tunes, culminated in a salute to the sports flag.
College principal Manojit Biswas presented the Chief guest, Avneesh Kumar, with a bouquet, memento, and shawl, and also felicitated the other guests. SDO of Jagannathpur, Mahendra Uraon, was also present at the college event. He was welcomed by the principal with a bouquet, a memento, and a shawl. In his address, he encouraged the students and conveyed his best wishes for the successful conduct of the sports meet.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Avneesh Kumar said that sports are not merely a means of physical development but also play a vital role in building discipline, leadership qualities, team spirit, and self-confidence. He urged students to actively participate in sports along with academics to lead a balanced, energetic, and positive life.
In his address, Principal Manojit Biswas highlighted the importance of sports in student life, stating that sports refine personality and develop qualities such as cooperation, tolerance, and healthy competition.

On the first day, several sporting events were conducted. In the 400-metre race for boys, Jainendra Tiriya secured first place, followed by Birbal Champia and Sudarshan Laguri. In the girls’ 400-metre race, Chandamuni Chatomba stood first, Suraj Rai second, and Priyanka Rai third. In the girls’ 200-metre race, Manju Gundua secured first position, followed by Sumitra Purti and Jeera Kairam. In the boys’ 200-metre race, Ishwar Jerai stood first, Gulshan Kumar Purti second, and Ram Barjo third.
Distinguished guests present on the occasion included the college’s founding member, Nisar Ahmad; Ajit Kumar Srivastava, Personal Manager, Balaji Industrial Limited; university representative of Noamundi College and former Principal of Commerce College, Chaibasa, Sanjeev Kumar Singh; college members Pandu Suren and Sanat Pradhan; and social workers Manne Singh and Sunil Singh.
