Jamshedpur : City-based based National Metallurgical Laboratory ( NML) celebrated its 64th Foundation Day at the NML auditorium on Wednesday.
NML director, S. Srikanth while delivering the welcome address mentioned about the notable achievements of the laboratory during the last year, like transfer of technologies, generation of non-destructive evaluation devices, services rendered to the strategic sectors, industries and PSU’s.
Srikanth said, “The wide spectrum of collaborative projects with Tata Steel and their impact in terms of application in the plant, new process and product development is an outstanding success story of NML.
Srikanth also mentioned about the NML technologies with immense potential for social impact developed during the last year, namely the development of lacquer for brass artefacts which was field tested, qualified with respect to all parameters at the Moradabad Brass Cluster and is being utilized by a large number of artisans and exporters; development of an energy efficient coke-based furnace for the melting of brass.
Srikanth added, “currently NML has been reengineering its policy and efforts towards the achievement of the 50 per cent of budget from industrial sponsorship & international funding”.

What NML has achieved in the bygone years with the available resources is truly commendable. Since with the passage of time the demand is increasing and so the manufacturing cost its time to focus on the utilization of wastes and lean grade ores as well and I am happy to learn that NML has already started its work in this direction.
As we all know changes in environment is rapid and thus significant influence has to be made. We need to articulate clear direction forward, with a synergistic approach so that we can embark a significant difference and enrich both the organization and the society on the whole”.
During the function winners of various events were also felicitated by the guests.
