Jamshedpur: NIT Jamshedpur secured the 82nd rank among the country’s top 100 engineering institutions in the NIRF Ranking 2025 released by the Ministry of Education. The announcement was made by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. IIT Madras once again retained its top spot in the Overall Category.
This year’s achievement marks a significant milestone for NIT Jamshedpur, which also secured the 17th position among 31 NITs nationwide, reflecting a remarkable improvement over last year. The institute had been striving for the past five years to feature among India’s top 100 technical institutions.
Officials attributed this success to two years of consistent effort, the dedication of faculty and students, enhanced facilities under the leadership of Registrar Col. (Dr.) Nishith Kumar Rai, and the guidance of Director Prof. (Dr.) Goutam Sutradhar.
Expressing happiness, Prof. Sutradhar congratulated faculty members, researchers, students, and staff for the achievement and said, “In the coming years, the institute will make every possible effort to improve its ranking further.”
The release of the NIRF Ranking 2025 by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, brought a wave of joy at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur. For the past several days, the institute’s faculty, students, and staff had been eagerly waiting for the announcement of the NIRF rankings.
The institute had been striving for the last five years to secure a place among the top 100 technical institutions in India. Owing to two years of consistent effort, the hard work of the faculty, the facilities provided under the leadership of Registrar Col. (Dr.) Nishith Kumar Rai, and the guidance of Director Prof. (Dr.) Goutam Sutradhar, the institute this year achieved the 82nd rank among technical institutions in India.
NIRF is a ranking framework launched in 2015 by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Its objective is to provide a fair and transparent evaluation of higher education institutions across India based on multiple parameters. Every year, the Ministry of Education releases the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) list. The ranking was published for the first time in 2016. NIRF was created for ranking universities, colleges, engineering, management, and pharmacy institutions. Before that, rankings were mostly based on perception and lacked inclusivity.
This year, the NIRF Ranking 2025 has been released in 17 categories: Overall, University, College, Research Institutions, Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Dental, Law, Architecture & Planning, Agriculture & Allied Sectors, Innovation, Open University, Skill University, State Public University, and Sustainability (SDG).
