NIT Jamshedpur Pays Tribute to Dishom Guru Shibu Soren*

Jamshedpur: Tributes poured in from across Jamshedpur on the passing of Dishom Guru Shibu Soren, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and sitting Rajya Sabha MP. A series of condolence meetings were held in the city to honour the legacy of the iconic tribal leader, whose decades-long struggle played a pivotal role in the creation of Jharkhand state and the upliftment of its tribal and marginalized communities.

At the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur, a solemn tribute ceremony was held at the administrative building, where Director Prof. (Dr.) Goutam Sutradhar, Deputy Director Prof. R.V. Sharma, and Registrar Colonel (Dr.) Nishith Kumar Rai led hundreds of teachers, staff members, students, and officials in paying homage to the late leader. A two-minute silence was observed in memory of Shibu Soren, followed by reflections on his contributions to the people of Jharkhand.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sutradhar said, “We have lost a great leader. Shibu Soren ji, affectionately known as Dishom Guru, was a guiding light in the struggle for tribal rights and justice. He led from the grassroots and became a symbol of people’s power. His role in the Jharkhand movement, his tenure as Chief Minister and Union Minister, and his unwavering fight for justice will be remembered forever.”

Meanwhile, at Khalsa High and Middle School in Burmamines, a separate condolence meeting was organised under the leadership of the Gurdwara Committee. Teachers, staff, students, and community members gathered to remember the contributions of Shibu Soren to Jharkhand’s identity and development.

School Deputy Secretary and youth leader Sardar Satbir Singh Somu shared insights into Shibu Soren’s leadership during the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha movement and his inclusive approach to governance. “He took everyone along—tribals, non-tribals, workers, youth—and gave the state its soul and direction. He will always remain the symbol of Jharkhand’s soil,” Somu said.

Committee officials including Savinder Singh, Joga Singh, and Gurdayal Singh also paid tributes and remembered Soren’s contributions to the upliftment of the underprivileged. A two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect.

Additionally, Satnam Singh Gambhir, President of the All India Sikh Students Federation (East India), also expressed deep grief at the passing of Shibu Soren. In a statement, he said, “Shibu Soren’s lifelong dedication to the rights and welfare of the tribal communities and the people of Jharkhand will never be forgotten. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and supporters.”

As Jharkhand mourns the loss of one of its tallest leaders, the tributes from educational institutions and civil society reflect the deep respect and admiration he earned over a lifetime of service. Dishom Guru Shibu Soren’s legacy continues to inspire generations committed to justice, equality, and regional pride.
