NIT Jamshedpur: National Symposium on Ancient Indian Science

Jamshedpur: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur inaugurated the 15th National Symposium on Ancient Indian Science and Technology on Monday. The two-day event, organized by the Centre for Indian Knowledge System, brought together academicians and researchers at the DJLHC auditorium to explore how India’s traditional knowledge fits into the modern scientific landscape.

Integrating Tradition and Technology Ram Vinay Sharma, Chairperson of the Centre and Deputy Director of the institute, opened the symposium by emphasizing the need to integrate traditional wisdom with contemporary education. Following the ceremonial lamp lighting, several distinguished speakers addressed the gathering:

  • Rakesh Sahgal: Highlighted the urgency of incorporating Indian knowledge traditions into modern academic frameworks.

  • Debi Prasad Mishra: Discussed the scientific depth and sustainability of ancient Indian technologies.

  • Goutam Sutradhar: Stressed the importance of revitalizing indigenous systems to solve global challenges.

  • Om Prakash Pandey: Advocated for a holistic, culturally rooted approach to scientific inquiry.

Focus Areas and Sustainability The symposium features expert lectures on diverse themes, including ethnobotanical knowledge, traditional agriculture, Ayurveda, and astronomy. Sessions specifically highlight how ancient irrigation, metallurgy, and eco-friendly farming practices offer community-driven solutions for sustainable development.

The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks from Jitendra Kumar, while Manish Kumar Jha anchored the proceedings.
