Jamshedpur, Dec 12: In an inspiring gesture of support, the alumni of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur are coming together to raise funds for the innovation and entrepreneurial endeavours of junior students. This initiative, aimed at fostering the next generation of engineers, seeks to provide financial assistance to students working on innovative research projects and startups.
The alumni have already raised an impressive Rs 10,81,000 for the fund, and their target is to accumulate at least Rs 1 crore by 2030. The fund will be used to support junior students, providing them with the initial financial help they need to start their own projects and businesses. This initiative was conceived during a recent alumni meet at the institute, where many of the alumni-who have gone on to become successful entrepreneurs or occupy leadership positions in multinational companies-discussed the importance of giving back to their alma mater. Prof. Gautam Sutradhar, Director of NIT Jamshedpur, expressed his admiration for the initiative, saying, “This initiative is commendable. With this support, students currently studying at the institute will not only have a better future but also the opportunity to fulfil their dreams and give them new wings. The alumni’s willingness to help the students reflects a deep commitment to the future of the institute.”
The foundation of this fund was laid under the Pradhan Mantri Svanidhi Yojana, with the idea of collecting money at a grassroots level for the benefit of students. The alumni have been contributing voluntarily, and their collective goal is to meet the Rs 1 crore target by 2030. In addition to the financial fund, the alumni have also pledged their support to the establishment of innovation centers at NIT Jamshedpur, which will further nurture creativity and entrepreneurship among students.
RK Behera, a prominent alumnus who played a pivotal role in devising the strategy to raise this fund, assured the institute of continued support from the alumni network. He stated, “We are committed to supporting the welfare of students and ensuring that they have the resources to pursue innovative research and entrepreneurial ventures without any financial constraints.”
