New power grid substation at Baliguma to start functioning from July

Jamshedpur , June 26 : Jharkhand UrjaVikas Nigam Limited ( JUVNL) has embarked on a drive to ensure improving power supply scenario at Mango locality. Steps are being taken for steady power supply in Mango under Mango Notified Area Committee. The situation will improve from July.

K.K Verma, general manager of JUVNL’s Singhbhumelectricity supply area said that the department was aware of the situation. Apart from making operational the new power grid substation at Baliguma, hey are also replacing the worn out cables and conductors, which often causes hurdle in power supply. Things are moving in the right earnest for making operational the new grid substation, which will resolve power crisis in Mango.

Sources in JUVNL said that at several places in Mango such as GurudwaraBasti and Azadnagar, the old cables which are pretty old are being replaced. Steps are being taken by the department. The transmission lines are also being thoroughly checked so that once the new grid starts to function the power supply is smooth,” said a source.

Presently, Mango locality is facing power cuts between 8-10 hours daily. Residents also complain about load sheddings and voltage fluctuations. But, the JUVNL general manager said all such problems would get over once the new grid is commissioned. Verma today said that work for installation of the four mono poles have been completed.

The multi-crore 100MW grid substation at Baliguma raised on six acres had already missed four inauguration deadlines in the past. Ironically, the new grid substation.was aimed at reducing load on the existing supply network and improving the power situation in Mango to benefit around 2.5 lakh residents.

Nearly two lakh population of Mango will be benefitted with completion of the ambitious new power grid sub-station at Baliguma on the National Highway – 33.The 100 MW grid sub-station is spread on six acres of land. The project cost around Rs 42-crore.

In the absence of a power grid sub-station, the entire Mango locality with a population of around two lakh will suffer especially during peak summers due to frequent breakdowns.”

The power grid sub-station was planned to reduce the distance of power transmission line. Presently, the 33 KV power transmission line is drawn from Gamharia and Chandil which comes to the Pardih sub-station from where it is supplied to various localities in Mango.

The new powergrid sub-station was planned to avoid dependence on the Gamharia or the Manique grid in Chandil,” explained an official.
