New CCTV cameras to be operational from October

Jamshedpur, Sept. 28: The district administration is making high security arrangements to ensure peaceful Durga Puja this season.

Law and order machinery has been pressed into service with full speed to ensure peaceful conduct of the festival, with additional police force being deployed at several strategic locations.

According to information two entry points to city from NH-33 will be under CCTV camera vigil before Durga Puja this year to keep a strict vigil on drivers and also criminals fleeing city after committing acts in city.

The CCTV is being installed from Monday at the 3.5 km stretch of four-lane Dimna Road and over 4-km stretch of four-lane Purulia Road with installation of the iron frame for cameras.

East Singhbhum senior superintendent of police, Anoop T. Mathew said that the step is being taken to increase vigil in view of the upcoming festivity and the sensitivity of these two stretches they have decided to install the CCTV cameras on these two stretches.

“ As per our study the Purulia Road (which covers Payal Talkies and communally sensitive areas of Jawaharnagar, Azadnagar and Pardih) and Dimna Road (which has host of residential areas, commercial establishments) are our priorities as criminals use these two stretch to escape from city. The cameras will be operational by October 5,”said Anoop T. Mathew.

Jamshedpur city SP, Prashant Anand said that apart from helping the law enforcers in getting concrete evidence against criminals it will also help in identifying rogue drivers.

“Both these two stretches are also accident prone zones of the city and with traffic increasing on road tremendously during Durga Puja we can help of camera footage to nab the rogue drivers by capturing their registration number details from the footage. All the CCTVs will be connected to the composite control room at Sakchi police station and will monitored for early information on any mishap or criminal incident,” said city SP.

According to a source in the police, the cameras are being installed at a height of 20 feet and will be covering between 50-60 meters distance.

Around 35 cameras will be installed on both the roads. City SP also informed that in the second phase, they have plans to install CCTV cameras on the Marine Drive and also on the Station Road.

`We are taking all necessary security measures to facilitate the pandal hoppers who will come to the city during Durga puja. The Durga Puja pandals are installed at 300 places in the city. The district administration has already convened meetings with Durga Puja organisers to prescribe a guideline for them.

The puja organisers have been asked to ensure installation of fire fighting system and also to provide identity cards to their volunteers. The norms for entrance and exit points in pandals have also been prescribed,” said an official.
