New Baby Care Corners to come up in all 65 health centres of East Singhbhum

Jamshedpur: New Baby Care Corners (NBCCs) will be set up in all 65 delivery centres to strengthen primary health centres across the East Singhbhum district. The Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the Health Department recently and issued directives for the NBCCs.

At the meeting, Satyarthi reviewed the progress and quality of all health services, including institutional delivery, vaccination, malnutrition, family planning, Mamta Vahini, and prevention of non-communicable diseases. Emphasizing the need to maintain the quality of health services in government institutions, the Deputy Commissioner stated that ensuring that citizens return home satisfied with their treatment is more important than focusing on statistics.

A review of the dialysis facility at Sadar Hospital revealed that a total of 835 people benefited from the services from April to November. The Deputy Commissioner directed for improved operation of the dialysis unit and proper patient care. The Ghatsila Sub-Divisional Hospital was also directed to improve the operation of the dialysis unit so that residents of the Ghatsila Sub-Divisional area do not have to travel to Jamshedpur for dialysis. C-section treatment at the Sub-Divisional Hospital was also reviewed.

The Deputy Commissioner directed all health department officials and staff, especially the MOIC, to prioritize institutional deliveries and raise public awareness about institutional delivery. He stated that improvements should be made in the first ANC (antenatal care) registration process, and follow-up should be conducted until the fourth ANC to ensure institutional delivery. He also directed the officials to ensure that all beneficiaries receive benefits under schemes like the Janani Suraksha Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) and that no eligible beneficiary should be deprived of health benefits.

Vaccination progress was found to be unsatisfactory in Baharagora, Chakulia, Patamda, and Golmuri and Jugsalai blocks. The Deputy Commissioner directed that special action plans be developed in these areas. Instructions were given to increase bed occupancy at malnutrition treatment centres and strengthen screening activities for non-communicable diseases.

Stressing the need to increase the number of Mamta vehicles, the Deputy Commissioner directed all MOICs to meet with the respective Block Development Officers (BDOs) to ensure at least one vehicle is assigned to each panchayat. Satyarthi also said that Special vigilance should be maintained to prevent seasonal diseases like dengue and malaria, and to ensure strict monitoring of all activities under fogging, awareness campaigns, and the National Vector Borne Disease Control Program. Instructions were given to expand the National Leprosy Eradication Program, the TB Eradication Campaign, and the anaemia screening campaign, especially in remote areas.

Under family planning, permanent measures like sterilization were implemented in a planned manner, consistent with the capacity of the block-level CHC, and to ensure that all medical resources are updated and the observation process is followed. Civil Surgeon Dr Sahir Pal, ACMO Dr Jogeshwar Prasad, Dr Ranjit Panda, Dr A Mitra, Dr Mrityunjay Dhavadiya, all MOICs, DPCs, DPMs, DDMs, BAMs, BPMs, BDMs, and other officials and staff of the health department were present in the meeting.
