Women still face restrictions 75 years post-independence: Shekhar Dey
Sreeleathers pays tribute to Subhash Chandra Bose on 128th birth anniv
Jamshedpur, Jan 23: A tribute meeting was held at the Sreeleathers showroom in Bistupur to commemorate the 128th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Shekhar Dey, a social worker and partner at Sreeleathers, paid homage to the iconic leader, describing him as a master of indomitable courage and visionary ideology.
The program began with Shekhar Dey garlanding Netaji’s portrait, bowing in respect, and lighting the ceremonial lamp. Addressing the gathering, he said, “Subhash Chandra Bose was not just a freedom fighter but a brave soldier who stood against imperialism and injustice. He believed in achieving independence through strength and resistance rather than submission. His vision of freedom was one where no individual or creature felt bound.”

Dey also highlighted Netaji’s progressive stance on women’s empowerment, noting how Bose broke societal barriers long before independence by forming a women’s armed regiment. He emphasized Bose’s deep understanding of military strategy, imperialist history, and economics, which he combined to design policies addressing every section of society.
During his speech, Shekhar Dey recounted Netaji’s visit to Jamshedpur in 1928. During the visit, Bose met with Tata Steel managers and provided suggestions to improve workers’ welfare. These suggestions were later implemented and brought significant changes. “Netaji had already outlined a comprehensive vision for the development of an independent India. If his policies were adopted today, the nation’s condition could have been much better,” Dey remarked.
He lamented that even 75 years after independence, women continue to face numerous restrictions. Netaji’s contributions have not been fully acknowledged, and his ideas remain underutilized. Dey urged society to revisit and implement Netaji’s principles to address contemporary issues.
The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including S. Chatterjee, Pratilekha Rai, Paresh Kumar Nandi, and Bhaskar Mitra, Meera Sharma along with employees of Sreeleathers. The stage was conducted by Meera Sharma, who ensured the smooth flow of the program.
