Baharagora: Nekragunji village of Gopalpur panchayat in Baharagora block of Ghatsila sub division is devoid of basic civic amenities despite being a model village.
This village was declared a model village in the year 2012. But despite passage of two years, no change has been seen here by the people till date. There is a majority of tribal people in the village. The population of the village is around 1000.
According to one of the villagers Bhuvan Hansda, There are around 90 houses in this village. But there is no toilet in any household. Also there is no facility of education, health or road, he said.
Hansda further said the residents of the village have to go to Midnapore in West Bengal for treatment as they do not have any basic civic amenity.
The villagers of Nekragunji face further problem in going to Midnapore during rainy season as they have to cross a big drain on their way. A bamboo bridge has been constructed by the villagers to cross the drain, said Hansda.
The villagers said local children do not have educational facility to continue their education. Children have to go as far as 25 kilometres away from the village to get education, they said.
The people of Nekragunji depend on agriculture for a living. They produce rice, wheat, ground nut and moong. Vegetables are also grown in good quantity.
