Need to change the way we work to achieve a sustainable future: Narendran

Jamshedpur, June 7: Tata Network Forum today organized a panel discussion on sustainability for the Eastern Region at Beldih Club, Jamshedpur.

The theme for discussion was �Mainstreaming Sustainability�. Dr Mukund Rajan, Chief Ethics Officer, Tata Group was the key note speaker on the occasion. TV Narendran, MD, Tata Steel India & SEA & Chairman, Tata Network Forum India East was also present during the event.

Dr Mukund Rajan spoke about �The Tata Sustainability Journey� which was followed by a session on �Insights on CEO�s thoughts on Sustainability� by Vishvesh Prabhakar, Managing Director, Sustainability, Accenture Strategy, India
Speaking on the occasion Narendran said, �Over the last decade we have recognized the subject �sustainability� as a focus area. Sustainability and climate change have now become a subject of political and economic discussion worldwide. We need to understand the subject more and at the same time get involved to establish sustainable practices for the organization.� He further added �We need to change the way we work and, as an organization, we will have to seize opportunities to achieve a sustainable future.�

While speaking about the Tata Sustainable Journey Rajan said �Tata Group has been playing a key role in global environment issues. Tata Group has been investing in capacity building. �Tata Engage� has emerged as the largest volunteering campaign in India.� He further added that �Tata Steel has done a commendable job in Jharkhand for the development of the tribals.�

Prabhakar spoke about a survey conducted by Accenture about changing paradigms of sustainability. He further stressed on the fact that sustainability is increasingly viewed as a critical lever of value creation and differentiation.

The second half of the programme saw functional leaders, Vivek Talwar, Chief Culture Officer, Chief Sustainability Office, Tata Power speak on �Integration of Sustainability with Strategy�, Sanjay Ranawade, Chief, Manufacturing Officer, Jewelry, Tanishq on �Initiatives in Supply Chain�, Damandeep Singh, Director CDP India on �Impact of COP21, India�s NDC and Science Based Targets� and Sundeep Singh, Principal, Accenture, Strategy and Sustainability on �Initiatives in Circular Economy�.

The sessions were moderated by Siddharth Shah, Chief, Corporate Strategy, Tata Steel, Amita Khurana, Chief Procurement (Bulk Commodities), Tata Steel, Shibojyoti Dutta, Head Climate Change & Strategic Planning, Tata Steel and Yogesh Bedi, Chief Marketing & Sales (IBMD), Tata Steel respectively.
