Jamshedpur, Feb 26: The controversy surrounding a chapter on “corruption in the judiciary” in a Class VIII Social Science textbook of National Council of Educational Research and Training has intensified. The issue has drawn strong reactions from the Union Government as well as the Supreme Court.

Speaking at a programme in Kadma (Jamshedpur), Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the government holds the judiciary in the highest regard. “I am deeply saddened by what has happened. It was never our intention to disrespect the judiciary,” he stated.

He informed that as soon as the matter came to light, distribution of the concerned textbooks was immediately halted. “A thorough inquiry will be conducted and strict action will be taken against those responsible for preparing the controversial content,” the minister added, assuring that every direction of the court would be followed in letter and spirit.

The Supreme Court has reportedly termed the content an attempt to malign the judiciary, further escalating the debate over academic responsibility and institutional respect.
