Jamshedpur, Aug 8: On the occasion of the 75th Independence Day celebration, the Ministry of Defence is organising a felicitation ceremony of Gallantry Award winners from across the country. In this context, the 37th battalion of NCC of Jharkhand organised a felicitation ceremony of the families of two martyr Param Vir Chakra winner Lance Naik Albert Ekka and Sena Medal winner Sepoy Ganesh Hansda.
Albert Ekka’s son Vincent Ekka and son Anuj Ekka were present along with Subhada Hansda, father of martyr Ganesh Hansda and mother Kapra Hansda and his brother Dinesh Hansda were present.
On behalf of the NCC, Commander Brigadier Manish Tripathi, Commanding Officer 27th Battalion Col Sanjay Shandilya and Principal of Karim City College Dr Mohammad Riaz received the families of the martyrs.
The history of Indian Army was presented in the short film ‘Shaurya Ka Safar’ by the Department of Mass Communication, Karim City College. City’s well-known artist Suman Prasad presented a picture of Ganesh Hansda within 10 minutes in her live performance.
After this, Dr. Neha Tiwari, head of the Department of Mass Communication, presented the biography of both the martyrs in front of the audience. Lance Naik Albert Ekka played a very important role in the 1971 war between India and Pakistan and was martyed on 3 December 1971 in an area called Gangasagar. Lance Naik Albert Ekka has been awarded the Param Vir Chakra by the Government of India.
After the citation, the families of both the martyrs were felicitated with shawls and gifts. In the course of the conversation, Albert Ekka’s son said that he feels very proud that he is a martyr’s son. Referring to his visit to Bangladesh, he said that when he saw his father’s martyrdom site, he was shocked that in what dire circumstances his father and fellow soldiers would have carried out this fight. He was pleased with the respect received from both the Government of India and the Government of Bangladesh. Dinesh Hansda, brother of Ganesh Hansda also said that he is definitely sad to lose his brother, but he is very proud that his brother could come to the rescue of this country.
Colonel Sanjay Shandilya, Commanding Officer of the thirty-seventh battalion said that it is a matter of pride that Ganesh Hansda was associated with the thirty-seventh battalion of NCC and thereafter joined the army. Speaking at the end of the program, NCC Group Commander Brigadier Manish Tripathi, who came from Ranchi, said that no one can understand the meaning of martyrdom better than family and all the youth need to take inspiration from these martyrs.
During the entire program, Dr. Mohammad Riaz, Principal of Karim City College, Captain Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed, Commander of NCC of Karim City College, Lt. Col. Deepak Kumar from NCC Battalion and NCC Coordinators of various colleges of the city were present. The ceremony was organized following the Covid-19 protocol. NCC cadets and the Mass Communication Department played a special role in its success.
