Accused sought extortion money at the behest of Maharaj Pramanik
Jamshedpur: Seraikela-Kharsawan police arrested one Johan Kandir on Thursday for allegedly demanding Rs 25 lakh in extortion from Ganesh Mahali, a local BJP leader, in the name of hardcore Naxalite Maharaj Pramanik.
SDPO Seraikela Avinash Kumar said the accused was arrested near Raidih Chowk under Tamar PS in Ranchi with the help of mobile surveillance. Kandir, a resident of Buruhatu, is an associate of Maharaj Pramanik, said the SDPO.
�The accused had threatened to kill Mahali over phone on 5th June 2016 after demanding extortion money of Rs 25 lakh from him. An investigation was started soon on the basis of the victim�s complaint. With the help of technical cell, we found out the phone number of the accused and put his phone on surveillance,� said the SDPO.
The SDPO said Kandir had confessed about having made a threatening call to Mahali to demand extortion money from him. Kandir had demanded extortion at the behest of Maharaja Pramanik, said the cop.
