Jamshedpur: Karim City College, Sakchi, celebrated National Science Day with great enthusiasm under the aegis of its Science Faculty. The two-day event was organised on the theme ‘From Laboratory to Life’, aiming to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect and inspire scientific curiosity among students. The convener of the program, Dr. Tufail Ahmed, highlighted that the event was designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-life applications of science.
The celebration began with the inaugural address by Principal Dr. Mohammad Reyaz, who congratulated the Science Faculty for organizing the event. In his speech, Dr. Reyaz emphasized the untapped potential of Jharkhand, a state rich in resources and minerals. He expressed his belief that fostering scientific thinking through such programs would contribute to the development of the state. “If thoughts develop, the state will develop,” he remarked, urging students to embrace scientific curiosity and innovation.
The event featured a series of engaging activities, including a debate competition, a quiz contest, and a poster-making competition, all held in the college auditorium. The debate focused on the thought-provoking topic, “Space Exploration: Worth the Cost and Resources?” A total of 18 students, divided into nine teams, presented compelling arguments for and against the motion, showcasing their analytical and oratory skills.
The debate was judged by Dr. Anwar Shahab, Head of the Political Science Department, and Dr. Basudhara Rai, Professor of English. The event was skillfully moderated by students Farheen, Fozia Jannat, Amit Mukherjee, and Riddhi Kumari. The competitions encouraged students to think critically and express their views on contemporary scientific issues.
The program witnessed active participation from faculty members, including Dr. Khurshid Anwar, Dr. Aftab Khan, Dr. Asgar Khan, Prof. H.K. Shaw, Dr. P.C. Banerjee, Prof. D.K. Singh, Prof. J.P. Mishra, and Dr. Muiz Ashraf.
