Patna, November 27: A 19-year-old Dalit girl who went to the deserted place with her 22-year-old male friend on his bike, was allegedly gang-raped by four men in Bihar’s West Champaran district on Tuesday evening.
According to a police, the girl and her boyfriend were approached by four men on two motorcycles at Vaishanavi colony near Chawani area in Bettiah, headquarters of West Champaran district, and started harassing the couple. Then, they roughed up her friend and threatened to kill her, before allegedly gang-raping her, the police said.
The rape survivor’s boyfriend told police that his girlfriend was sexually assaulted before his eye by all the accused. The survivor was, later, admitted to Government Medical College Hospital, Bettiah, where her medical examination was conducted, said superintendent of police (SP) Shaurya Suman.
Bettiah SP Suman said considering the seriousness of the case, a special investigation team (SIT) was formed under subdivisional police officer (SDPO) Vivek Deep.
Both the officers visited the spot, along with the SIT members and inspected the crime scene.
“The statement of the survivor was recorded by the woman police station in charge. After recording her statement, rapid raids were conducted and all four accused were arrested within two hours. We will try to ensure justice through a speedy trial,” he said
Those arrested have been identified as Irshad Quraishi (22), Md. Shahzad (26), Baiddulah Khan (28) and Farhan Alam (20). They all are the residents of Bettiah.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case (57/24) under section 70 (1)/3(5) bns and 3(2) (v-a) SC/ ST.
