Jamshedpur, Aug. 17 : In a shocking incident, a murder convict Neeraj Singh (40) who was undergoing treatment at the MGM Medical College Hospital escaped from the prisoners’ ward of the hospital past midnight to be caught again from near the Sitaramdera bus terminus early Thursday.
A resident of Mango and former president of BJP’s Ulidih unit, Neeraj was convicted in the Kulraj Singh murder case registered with the Bistupur thana area on April 10 2005.
Neeraj complained of infection and was taken to MGM Medical College Hospital prisoners’ ward on June 6 this year.
Ever since June 6, Neeraj was lodged in the medical college hospital’s prisoners’ ward for undergoing treatment.
OC, Sakchi police station, Mohan Kumar Sharma said that the murder convict Neeraj fled the prisoners’ ward of the MGM Medical College Hospital past midnight, leading the guards on the prisoners’ ward security to inform the police.
” As we got the information about the convict’s escape, we came into action for searching him. Finally, a police team traced him near the Sitaramdera bus terminus at about 5 am,” said Sharma.
The OC, Sakchi thana said that as the convict was under treatment they brought him back to the prisoners’ ward where they lodged him again.
Deputy superintendent of police (city) Anudeep Singh said they are probing as to what led a convict escape from the medical college hospital’s prisoners’ ward.
He said that action will be taken against security personnel deployed on duty.
Neeraj was convicted along with three others, including a woman by the East Singhbhum district sessions court on February 8.
Three others who were convicted in the case along with Neeraj were Surya Patel, wife Uma Patel and Santosh Agrawal and all these four convicts were lodged in Ghaghidih Central Jail and were convicted and were sentenced to life imprisonment.
