Mumbai police arrests kingpin of fake passport racket from Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Nov 1: In a major breakthrough, the Mumbai police have arrested Monajir Khan, the alleged mastermind of a fake passport syndicate, from Zakirnagar Cross Road No. 17, Azadnagar area of Jamshedpur.

Khan is accused of creating a forged passport for an agent of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI.

According to officials, Khan operated a travel and documentation agency under the name Asian International near Mango Chowk, dealing in passport and visa processing.

Acting on intelligence inputs, Mumbai police arrested him on October 26, initially taking him to Mango police station for interrogation.

He was produced before a local court the next day and remanded to transit custody for transfer to Mumbai.

During a raid at his office, police seized four hard drives, a laptop, a CPU, and several suspicious documents. Investigators revealed that Monajir possessed advanced digital tools to manipulate passport data and was in contact with international agents and middlemen involved in sending people abroad through forged documents.

Sources said Monajir has a criminal record dating back to 2017, when he was arrested for vandalizing the Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) office and stealing computer hard drives.

He was jailed then but later released on bail.

His current arrest is part of an interstate investigation. Earlier, Delhi police had apprehended Adil Hussain in the same case, while Mumbai police’s Special Cell had arrested Akhter Hussain, Adil’s brother.

Both reportedly named Monajir during questioning.

Investigations revealed that Monajir had arranged a fake passport and visa for Akhtar Hussain under the alias Alexander.

Akhtar Hussain’s name had previously surfaced in a 2004 nuclear espionage case, in which he was accused of attempting to sell classified Indian nuclear information.

Police also discovered that Monajir ran an illegal passport and visa network with his brother Danish Khan, who operates a travel agency called Sky World Office in Mango.

Monajir provided overseas recruitment contacts, while Danish allegedly extorted large sums from people under the guise of arranging foreign jobs.

The duo has reportedly been running this racket for over 15 years, amassing immense wealth.

Authorities claim that the Khan family has acquired assets worth crores of rupees, including luxury cars, real estate, and multiple properties.

Suspicious documents were also seized from a mobile shop owned by Monajir’s father and brother.

Locals in Zakirnagar said they were unaware of Monajir’s arrest, as his family and employees kept the matter under wraps, even opening the office the next day to avoid suspicion.

The police are now probing whether the forged passports were used to send individuals abroad for illegal or terror-linked activities.

Jamshedpur police have handed over all seized digital devices and records to Mumbai police for forensic examination to uncover the full extent of the operation.
