Jamshedpur: The MP of Jamshedpur Vidyut Varan Mahato met Union Minister of State (MoS) Jitendra Singh on Friday and demanded his intervention to get forest and environmental clearance for the Jadugora mines of Uranium Corporation of India Limited.

In a memorandum addressed to the MoS, the MP said that the forest and environmental clearance to the Jadugora mines was pending for the last two years. As a result of the roadblock, the mines was totally shutdown, causing unemployment of local workers.

The MP informed the MoS that he had written earlier regarding the mines clearance issue to the Prime Minister. In want of urgent action, the mines could not be reopened till date, he said.

Mahato also raised the issue of wage settlement of the UCIL workers. He said the approval file was pending with the Prime Ministers Office. He said the Uranium Mazdoor Sangh had given a letter to him demanding early disposal of the wage settlement of the UCIL workers.

Around 4500 workers are affected by the pending wage settlement, he said, demanding prompt action on the same.
