Chaibasa: Singhbhum MP Joba Majhi has raised a demand in Parliament for express train stoppages at smaller railway stations within her constituency. Speaking during the budget session, she urged the Railway Minister to introduce halts for key express trains at Lota Pahar, Posaita, Adityapur, Manoharpur, Goilkera and Sonua stations to improve accessibility for passengers in these regions.
Majhi specifically requested that the Tata-Itwari Passenger train stop at Lota Pahar and Posaita, while the Tatanagar-Buxar Express and Tatanagar-Durg Express should halt at Adityapur. She also demanded stoppages for the Ahmedabad Express at Manoharpur, the Kanta Baji Express at Goilkera and the Tatanagar-Ernakulam Express and Kalinga Utkal Express at Sonua station.
Responding to her appeal, the Railway Minister highlighted that efforts had already been made to accommodate some of these requests. Between March and September 2023, new stoppages were approved for several trains at Goilkera station, including the Lokmanya Tilak-Shalimar Express, Durg-Ara South Bihar Express, Howrah-Titlagarh Express and Puri-Yog Nagari Rishikesh Express. Additionally, from March 14, 2024, the Howrah-Titlagarh Express, Shalimar-Adra Express and Durg-Ara Express have started halting at Sonuwa station.
At present, 20 trains stop at Goilkera, 4 at Lota Pahar, 4 at Posaita, 26 at Adityapur, 22 at Manoharpur and 14 at Sonua station. Majhi emphasized that better rail connectivity is essential for smaller towns and she hopes that the railway authorities will continue to address the needs of passengers in remote areas.
