MoU to help generate employment for Gua women

Noamundi : Gua Ore Mines (SAIL’s raw material division) has join hands with Jharcraft – the state-run corporation to promote silk , Ranchi to empower women of villages in the mining township of Gua in West Singhbhum, promising them a steady livelihood by means of weaving silk.

According to AK Verma, GM Gua Sail (CSR) initiative was started to provide a source of income generation for the local women. Keeping this in mind MoU was signed ,Gua Ore Mines, RMD, SAIL on 17 January 2013 in the presence of BC Prasad, GM(Operation),Jharcraft, A.K. Behuria, AGM (Finance), Gua Ore Mines, Sandeep Sinha, Sr. Mgt. Manager, Jharcraft, PK Biswas, Astt. Manager
(CSR), Gua Ore Mines and Kameshwar Prasad, Jr Manager (Liaison),RMD, SAIL, Ranchi. The total project cost is Rs.15 lakhs including infrastructural development.

Initially, 10 looms will be installed to train 30 women for the surrounding villages and it will be expanded gradually seeing the progress. As per the project report, each member can earn Rupees 3000/- to 5000/- per month depending upon their skill. It will provide all necessary support for design, raw materials and marketing of the product. SAIL is committed for CSR activities in Southern Jharkhand under the major heads of Health, Education, Vocational Training and Self-employment. This MOU now these days help to generate employment to the local women.
