Morning walker killed in road mishap at Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, June 20: An 80-year-old man lost his life in a tragic road accident in the Ulidih police station area on Saturday morning.
The deceased, identified as Sudarshan Sharma, a resident of Sankosai Road No. 4, had stepped out for his routine morning walk when the mishap occurred.
According to reports, Sharma was walking along the roadside when a speeding bus travelling from Dimna towards Mango allegedly struck him and fled the spot.
The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the octogenarian critically injured and lying on the road.
Passers-by and local residents rushed to his aid and immediately shifted him to MGM Hospital for treatment.
Despite the best efforts of doctors, Sharma succumbed to his injuries during treatment owing to severe trauma to his head and other parts of the body.
On getting information, Ulidih police reached the spot and launched an investigation. The body has been sent to MGM Medical College for post-mortem examination.
Police are also scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the vehicle and trace the driver responsible for the accident.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the Sankosai locality. Residents have demanded stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and effective measures to curb reckless driving, stressing the need for improved road safety to prevent such tragedies in future.
