Monsoon remains active in Jamshedpur, rain, thunderstorms likely to continue

Jamshedpur: The monsoon remains normal across Jharkhand, but multiple weather systems are contributing to increased rainfall and thunderstorm activity across the state. The Ranchi Met Centre has issued an advisory urging residents, particularly in southern and north-eastern districts, to remain alert over the coming days.

On August 8, heavy rainfall is likely to continue in the north-eastern districts, with chances of thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds in isolated areas.

The pattern is expected to persist through the weekend. On August 9 and 10, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds of 30 to 40 km/h are likely at isolated places throughout Jharkhand.

Synoptic features indicate that the monsoon trough currently passes through Ferozpur, Karnail, Moradabad, Kheri, Jalpaiguri, and extends up to the foothills of Arunachal Pradesh. An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over central Bangladesh between 5.8 and 7.6 km and is tilting southwestward with height. Additionally, a mid-level trough runs from northwest Bihar to southeast Bangladesh via northern Gangetic West Bengal between 3.1 and 4.5 km.

During the past 24 hours, monsoon conditions were normal across Jharkhand. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms was reported at many locations. The highest recorded rainfall was 47.4 mm at Govindpur in Dhanbad.

The Met Centre advises people to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open spaces, and take necessary precautions during lightning and gusty winds.
