Monsoon likely to hit Kolhan region by June 16

Jamshedpur : Kolhan is likely to get the monsoon showers June 10. The Indian Meteorological Department’s regional centre at Ranchi claims like always the rainy season will enter from Dumka district
where it is scheduled on June 10.

By June 12, it will reach Kolhan by June 16. ” It may arrive four days before or after the tentative dates.

Dumka is basically the actual line of entry for the monsoon. As of now, the frequent short-term rains are merely due to the formation of convective clouds and nor’wester winds.

The life span of the local clouds is valid for two to three hours. It does not play an effective role in reducing the temperature,” said an official.

The IMD office considers the months of March to May as pre-monsoon period. Referring the period.

“The severe heat conditions are due to westerly to northwesterly winds which are prevailing at lower levels
over the region.

Heat wave conditions would continue to prevail in parts of Chottanagpur region during the next two days,”
said the officials.

The officials added that added that the dry westerly and northwesterly winds from Bay of Bengal is making
the temperature rise.

Meanwhile, curfew-like situation prevails in the city during the day as the denizens stayed indoors till the evening due to the sweltering heat.

Heat waves and sultry weather scare vehicle riders and pedestrians, and it resulted in roads wearing a
deserted look during the day.

“The arrival of monsoon in Jharkhand has been fixed June 16 and no rain is expected for the next 48 hours,”
an official of local met office said.

The city has been sweltering for the past few days with temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius and wearing a deserted look. Frequent power cuts have added to the woes of residents.

Passengers and commuters have been worst hit with hot winds blowing during the day. According to meteorological officials, the lack of thunderstorm activity that precedes the monsoon showers, could be the reason that temperatures are five to six degrees above the norm.

People are eagerly awaiting the onset of the monsoon season.
