Jamshedpur: A modern Elephant Care Centre will be constructed near Bhadudih, adjacent to Dimna Lake in the foothills of Dalma. Spanning 10 hectares (approximately 26 acres), this facility is being built at a cost of ₹1 crore and is expected to be a lifeline for elephants in the Kolhan region.
Saba Alam Ansari, DFO of Dalma and Deputy Director of the Elephant Project, stated that construction will begin next week. The centre aims to address human-elephant conflict while providing a safe haven for injured, sick, elderly, or orphaned elephants.

A Hospital and Rehabilitation Hub
The setup will function as a specialized hospital and rehabilitation centre. A team of expert wildlife veterinarians will be stationed there to provide regular check-ups and treatments, including surgeries, X-rays, ultrasounds, and pathology services. To ensure the mental well-being of the elephants while undergoing treatment, the centre will feature open, natural enclosures designed to provide a stress-free environment.
Resource Management and Tech Integration
The facility will include dedicated ponds and water tanks for bathing—a critical need for elephants—along with a steady supply of fodder. Advanced technology, including drones, GPS collars, and CCTV cameras, will be used to monitor elephant movement and health. Mahouts and forest personnel will be deployed to track behavioral patterns and dietary needs.
