Jamshedpur: The president of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry(SCCI)Suresh Sonthalia today said that the Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission had given relief to over 32,000 consumers in the city by raising electricity rates moderately from 7.69 per cent to 8.9 per cent.

The Chamber had taken up the rate hike proposed by Tata Steel for Jamshedpur town. Tata Steel had proposed a hike in the rates of electricity in the range of 26 per cent to 80 per cent. After a persistent follow up the number of objections raised by the Chamber, the Commission ordered a moderate hike in the rates, Sonthalia said.

Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry had raised a number of objections against the petitions of Jusco and Tata Steel in connection with the proposal regarding a hike in electricity tariff.

Jusco had proposed an increase in the rates ranging from 27 per cent to 47 per cent but due to serious objections raised by the Chamber, the Commission decided not to increase any rates in the new tariff order issued two days ago.

This has resulted into a huge relief to almost all industrial units in Adityapur and general public residing under Jusco power in Seraikela-Kharsawan.
