All 11 blocks to have at least two polling booths

Jamshedpur, March 25 : The administration has sent directives to all the block development officers to develop at least two polling booths into model polling booths. East Singhbhum deputy development commissioner B. Maheshwari informed that there are 11 blocks in East Singhbhum district and each of the blocks will identify at least two polling booths in their respective blocks as model polling booths.
� As per our plansthese booths will provide facilities like tents and chairs for the voters apart from the assured minimum facilities. Most of the BDOs have assured to submit details of the model polling booths and provide the facilities during elections. The voters can look forward to exercise their franchise at ease,� said Maheshwari.
According to information Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) and Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) are making arrangements at the polling booths in Jamshedpur East and Jamshedpur West assembly constituencies. They will be providing respite from heat for the voters turning up to exercise adult franchise during May 12 Lok Sabha polls for Jamshedpur Parliamentary constituency.
�Acting on the directives we will be identifying nearly 40 polling booths spread across different parts of Jamshedpur as our model polling booths and in all such booths we will be putting up tents and putting up adequate number of chairs for the comfort of voters,� said JNAC special officer Krishna Kumar.
MNAC special officer Rajendra Prasad also said that they will be identifying 25 model polling booths in which they will be making provision for shamianas and chairs.
�When there is long queue of voters, a large number of voters have to stand in the sun and only few are able to stand in the shade of the school campus. To bring respite to such voters we will be putting up tents. Those who have health issues and are elderly and cannot afford to stand for a long time can also take rest in the chairs at the booths,� said Rajendra Prasad.
This, apart, both JNAC and MNAC will be making arrangements for distribution of sherbets to all the elderly voters and also distribute sweets and certificates to first voters who turn up to cast their votes in the model polling booths.
Incidentally, there are nearly 1885 polling booths in as many as 1133 polling locations across the district which represents Jamshedpur Parliamentary constituency.The Jamshedpur parliamentary constituency that has 15,51,297 voters recorded 66.38 per cent of voting 2014. A total of 10.49 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituency that comprises the following six Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments Baharagora, Ghatshila, Potka, Jugsalai, Jamshedpur East and Jamshedpur West.
