Jamshedpur, Feb 9: In a significant success under Operation Passenger Safety, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Chakradharpur Division arrested a habitual mobile phone thief red-handed at Tatanagar Railway Station on February 9.
Acting on the directions of the Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, RPF/Chakradharpur Division, a special flying squad carried out the operation and apprehended the accused, identified as Akibur Rahman Mandal alias Akir Ali Mandal, a resident of Bankura district in West Bengal.
During the search, RPF personnel recovered a Poco mobile phone from his possession. On interrogation, the accused confessed that he had stolen the phone a few days earlier from an unsuspecting passenger while targeting a moving train near Tatanagar station.
RPF officials revealed that the arrested man is a seasoned offender. He has previously been jailed on three occasions by the Tatanagar Railway Police for similar thefts involving passengers’ belongings. Despite this criminal history, he had once again become active in the station premises, preying on commuters.
After completing the necessary legal formalities, the RPF handed over the accused to the Tatanagar Railway Police Station for further action.
The RPF has reiterated its appeal to passengers to remain vigilant during travel, safeguard their belongings, and promptly report any suspicious activity to security personnel to ensure a safe and secure journey.
