IIMT-Oxford Brookes Innovation Challenge
Jamshedpur, Nov 21: At the IIMT-Oxford Brookes Innovation Challenge 2013, the project submitted by Motilal Nehru Public School (MNPS) on “Recycling for environment” has found a place in the select 11 projects from across the coun- try.
The project undertaken by students Shubham Sharma, Faizal, Prerna and Surabhi Kumari of the plus two is all about composting for recycling for environment, conservation for better waste management and eventual benefit of the society.
Through compositional analysis of waste at school and at Hotel White Rose and Hotel Karnal, they found out that organic wastes are the major component of the total wastes produced.
They have taken collaborative steps with both the eateries to collect these organic food wastes to compost it and sell it out in the market as healthy organic manure. This step they believe will go a long way in reducing the wastes that go to the landfills, thus, preventing global warming.
The IIMT -Oxford Brookes Innovation Challenge aims to create a platform for expression of innovative ideas of young students in India. The school aims to bring out a challenge in the grass root level and hopes that this can be adopted by other organizations as well to usher in a change.
Along with the teacher facilitator Mrs. Ghazala Khan, the team will soon be travelling to Delhi to showcase their presentation and vie for A coveted position amongst the top 11 teams of the country.
