MLA Purnima Sahu demands renewal of lease land registration in Tata Command Area

Jamshedpur: The issue of the eight-year suspension of the Tata Command Area leased land registry heated up in the Assembly on Wednesday. Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu vehemently opposed the government’s negative responses to queries raised by her on this issue.

The government gave negative responses to Sahu’s allegations that the public was being inconvenienced by the stoppage in lease land registration and that it was also causing revenue loss. The government also stated that there is no proposal to resume the registry.

According to residents and those familiar with land transfer procedures, the Tata Command Area lease land registry has been suspended for nearly eight years, causing hardship to thousands of beneficiaries. The estimated state revenue loss is approximately Rs 600 crore, Sahu alleged.

Expressing displeasure with the government’s response in the House, Sahu said that the government has misled the Assembly with its response. The government’s dismissive response undermines public interest issues and conceals reality. She said it is unfortunate that the government is not providing clear and factual answers on serious issues such as public harassment and revenue loss. The government’s dismissive response is extremely unfortunate.

Sahu said the government should explain under what circumstances the registry was stopped and at whose behest. When the registry process continued for years, and the government received consistent revenue, why was it suddenly stopped? She also demanded that the government provide the House with a complete breakdown of revenue received in the years prior to the registry’s closure, so the actual situation can be understood. She said the closure of the registry has left thousands of people’s land-related work pending, causing them significant financial and legal difficulties. The government should immediately remove technical obstacles and restore the registry process, providing relief to the public and strengthening the state’s revenue, she added.
