Saraikela, Feb 2: The central budget announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman evoked mixed response. Intellectuals, politicians and common people each had individual views and opinions. The Avenue Mail noted some of the observations for the benefit of readers.

Sonaram Bodra (JMM Saraikela block president): No special allocation for Jharkhand has been made in the union budget which goes to shoe the Centre’s step brotherly attitude towards the stae and its people whose expectations have been belied.

Manoj Kumar Chowdhary (BJP district treasurer): The budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman under the shadow of trying COVID times touches on all sections, segments and sectors. The budget focuses on Atmanirbhar Bharat, 5 trillion dollar economy with special attention on doubling farmers’ income.

Chhaya Singh (Homemaker): The government has tried to curtail prices of gold and silver to bring them within the reach of the middle class. But raising the prices of electronic goods and propagating Digital India would further weigh down on purses.

Rita Devi (Homemaker): The prices of cotton cloths is a setback for the middle class. There is no clear mention of kitchen needs. The move to bring down gold and silver prices is a silver lining in the budget.

Lalit Chowdhary (young businessman): The budget presented in Parliament is very heartening and laudable. Trade and business will get a boost. Along with Atmanirbhar Bharat, job opportunities will be created. All sectors have been considered and should be welcomed warmly.

Arun Kumar Sahu (young businessman): There is not much scope of development of businessmen and their business. Small businessmen and traders still reeling under the pandemic blow had much expectations from Budget – ’21. There has been no change in the tax slab structure either. It is a disappointing budget.

Mahabir Pramanick (young businessman): Not providing for income avenues in the budget is sad and disappointing. The budget has been made out keeping in mind a selective section while discriminating againt the middle class and poor segments.
