Mining Secretary orders probe into Rameshwar Jute Mill iron ore mines

Chaibasa, Aug 19: Secretary, Department of Mining K Srinivasan had ordered a probe into the mining activities of M/s Rameshwar Jute Mills at its iron ore mine at Tatiba-Baraiburu in Noamundi Cicle. The team led by the Deputy director of Mines, Hazaribag Circle Shankar Sinha that included Assistant Geologist, Hazaribag Circle Kunal Kaushik, Chaibasa Circle District Mining Officer Sanjiv Kumar and mining Inspector Vishwanath today visited the iron ore mines, collected relevant data and iron ore samples and returned to Ranchi. The committee will have to hand over its report to State mining Secretary K Srinivasan within five days.

 The investigation team took the entire day to conduct data collection. The team questioned the company�s Geologist Pravin Kumar and Mines manager Kumar Ranjan during investigations.

According to information, the companies whose lease on iron mines expired on March 31, 2020 had sought permission from the state government to dispatch the ore extracted upto the period. Not getting the government�s nod, M/s Rameshwar Jute Mills� management approached the High Court against the government in the matter. The HC had ruled in favor of the company but the government had failed to comply. The report further states that the company management again filed its representation in the Court at noncompliance of the HC orders and this time the complaint was filed against the mining Department Official.

This resulted in the Mining Department Secretary K Srinivasan forming a four member team headed by Shankar Sinha. The report is to be submitted within five days to the Secretary. It may be mentioned here that the State mining Department Secretary K Srinivasan had served as the Deputy Commissioner of West Singhbhum earlier. It is being expected that the state Mining Department Secretary will take swift action that could result in auction of mines that have remained dormant since March 31, 2020.
