Mining lease will be renewed after assessment of job creation by mines: CM

Chaibasa: Chief Minister Hemant Soren presided over the “Ghar Vapsi Samaroh” (homecoming ceremony) organized by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha for its old members at Garib Maidan, Chaibasa, on Friday.

Thousands of former JVM and AJSU activists joined the JMM along with ex-MLA Mangal Singh Bobonga, ex-MLA Bahadur Oraon and Antu Hembram and other party leaders at the function. The JMM leaders claimed that hundreds of JVM activists from Jagarnathpur constituency took the membership of JMM under the leadership of Mangal Singh Bobonga, former JVM central Secretary.

Speaking on the issue of mining lease renewal in the state, Soren said it will be renewed soon after assessing how many local people got job opportunities in the mining companies. In an aside to former CM Madhu Koda and his wife Geeta Koda for organizing a rally on lease renewal recently, he said, “Some of the leaders nowadays are taking out procession in mining areas. They want to gain political mileage by politicizing the mining issue against the order of the Supreme Court and provisions of the Constitution.”

The CM alleged that government rules were often ignored by the people criticizing the government for their vested interests. “Can these leaders cite the name of local people who benefitted enormously through mining in the area?” asked the CM.

Soren said the government wanted the mine owners to ensure that they carried out welfare and development work and create job opportunities in their areas of operation for the benefit of local people.

Earlier in the day, the new members were garlanded by Hemant Soren who welcomed them into the party. Addressing the gathering, the CM said, “Once all these senior leaders were active members of JMM. They played a big role in Jharkhand movement. After a hiatus, they have come back to the party. Their joining JMM will definitely strengthen the party in Kolhan. These senior leaders have a strong public image in tribal areas.”

The CM further added, “The state government has introduced many welfare schemes for the poor people. We have increased the health benefit scheme cover to Rs 2.50 lakh for the treatment of life threatening diseases besides announcing five gram gold as help in weddings for poor family.”

A large number of party activists and senior JMM leaders including state Adivasi welfare, transport and industry minister Champai Soren were present on the occasion.
