Jamshedpur: Social organisation Milan Welfare Charitable Trust today protested construction of �Statue of Unity�, an ambitious project of BJP�s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to honour Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel.
The protest raised eyebrows of many since the protestors led by Shahjad Khan is a close associate of Congress MLA Banna Gupta and Sardar Patel himself was a Congress leader.
The activists demonstrated in front of the district collectorate, submitted a memorandum to the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner demanded stay in the construction work of
the statue.
�We would want the statue to be built in the name of Mahatma Gandhi. We feel that the Gujarat chief minister is using the sentiments of people for his political aspirations and also insulting Mahatma Gandhi name,� said Khan.
