Migratory birds from Siberia enchant visitors at Chandil Dam

Seraikela: Some winged visitors from Siberia have turned the Chandil Dam into a vibrant attraction this winter. Thousands of migratory birds from Siberia, flying nearly 4,582 km, have arrived at the reservoir. Spread over 1,96,300 hectares under the Subarnarekha Multipurpose Project, the dam has become a huge draw for birdwatchers and nature lovers.

The sight of colourful birds gliding over calm waters against the backdrop of green hills has captivated tourists. Boating facilities allow visitors to observe the birds up close, making the experience memorable. The dam is now attracting tourists not only from Jharkhand but also from other states and abroad.

However, the arrival of bird watchers in large numbers has raised concerns over the lack of basic facilities like accommodation, sanitation, electricity, and security. Locals believe that with proper planning and infrastructure, Chandil Dam could emerge as an international eco-tourism hub. Boatmen committee president Narayan Gop urged the tourism and fisheries departments to implement inclusive development plans to boost employment and sustainable tourism.
